By Scott Feller, Owner & CEO of Koala Cooling & Plumbing | Updated May 2026

If you're searching for AC replacement in Round Rock, TX, you already know the problem, the search results are crowded with big-budget advertisers, and it's genuinely hard to know whom you can trust. I'm Scott Feller. My wife Stacie Feller and I own Koala Cooling & Plumbing located in Round Rock. I decided to put together the list I'd want to see if I were a homeowner myself, companies I'd feel comfortable sending my own parents to.

Yes, I Own One of the Companies on This List. Here's How I Tried to Be Fair.

I know what you're thinking. A guy who owns an AC company is writing a list of the best AC companies in the area... including his own. That seems a little self-serving, doesn't it?

Fair. So here's how I tried to keep myself honest:

  • The list is alphabetical by city, then alphabetical within each city. No rankings. Koala isn't first.
  • Every company had to clear the same bar: locally owned, licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), operating out of a real commercial address (not someone's spare bedroom), a minimum 4.7 Google Business Profile rating, and at least 75 verified reviews as of the date this list was updated.
  • Nobody paid to be here. No affiliate links, no sponsorships, no reciprocal "I'll feature you if you feature me" arrangements.
  • I verified each company's TDLR license number, address, and review snapshot personally before publishing.
  • I only listed nine companies, not ten. More on that at the bottom — I want your help with the tenth spot.

Why "Local" Matters More Than Ever in Round Rock

Before I get to the list, I want to talk about something that doesn't get said enough.

A lot of the big-name HVAC companies you've heard of, the ones with the catchy jingles, the giant trucks, and the TV commercials, are no longer locally owned. According to PitchBook data reported by the Wall Street Journal in October 2024, private-equity firms have purchased nearly 800 HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies since 2022 — and those are just the biggest deals that get tracked. Industry analysts have called 2024 a record year for HVAC PE deals, with major roll-up platforms now operating dozens of brands under a single corporate umbrella. Several Austin-area companies have been quietly acquired and folded into multi-state networks.

I want to be fair: there's nothing inherently wrong with private equity. Some of these transitions go smoothly, and some of those companies still do good work. But homeowners deserve to know what they're calling. Many PE-acquired companies keep the same local name, same logo, and same family-feel branding even after they're part of a corporate group operating across multiple states. You think you're calling a local neighbor. You might actually be calling a call center hundreds of miles away — staffed by people who couldn't tell you which Round Rock neighborhood floods first when storms roll through.

When the parent company's main objective is maximizing revenue per call, homeowners may feel pushed toward bigger replacements or add-ons before all repair options are fully explored.

When you hire a truly locally owned company for your AC system replacement, you're hiring someone who lives where you live. Someone whose reputation in this community is everything, and whom you can hold accountable face to face. That matters especially when a Texas summer hits and your AC goes out at 9pm on a Saturday.

Every company on this list is the real thing.

AiRCO has been serving Central Texas since 1983 and is one of the longest-running HVAC operations in the region. In the spirit of full transparency: AiRCO was acquired by Direct Energy in 2008 and later bought back by six of its owners in 2016, returning the company to private, employee-aligned ownership. That kind of management buyback is uncommon in this industry — most companies that get acquired stay acquired. The owners betting on themselves and the local market, putting their own money on the line to do it, says something about how they see the business.

AiRCO has grown to serve both residential and commercial customers across Central Texas, with a residential division backing installations with a No Lemon Guarantee — if your compressor fails for a second time within five years of installation, they replace the equipment at no cost. That kind of warranty isn't cheap to honor, which is why most companies don't offer it.

Why they made the list: Long Central Texas track record, owner-buyback ownership story, transparent installation warranty, real commercial location.

This is the kind of small, owner-operated outfit that makes Round Rock a good place to live. Robin's name is on the door, and you'll often deal with him directly.

Why they made the list: Owner-operated, decades of local experience, consistent reputation for honest diagnostics.

That's us. My wife Stacie and I started Koala Cooling because we wanted to build the kind of HVAC company we'd want to call ourselves — one that shows up on time, tells the truth, publishes actual prices online, and stands behind the work with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Koala Cooling & Plumbing has won Best AC Repair and Installation in the 2024 & 2025 Best of Round Rock Awards. We're licensed, locally owned, and based right here in Round Rock. That's the same standard I held everyone else on this list to.

Why we made our own list: We meet the same criteria as every other company here — TDLR licensed, real commercial address in Round Rock, locally owned, and reviews above the threshold. If we didn't, we wouldn't be on it.

You've heard the jingle thousands of times on TV and radio over the years. Years ago it was just pest and lawn services but has now grown into a company offering far more. ABC has been a family-owned and operated business since 1949, when Bob Jenkins Sr. started ABC Pest Control in San Antonio with his wife Sandy after returning from the U.S. Army. Today, the Jenkins family is now into its third generation of ownership. They've grown into one of the most recognized home services names in Central Texas, and they've done it the right way — by earning it over decades.

ABC is one of the few large Central Texas home-services brands that has stayed genuinely family-owned through the recent acquisition wave. That's a meaningful distinction.

Advanced Air Conditioning & Heating is a locally owned and operated HVAC company serving Cedar Park and surrounding Central Texas communities since 2017. Newer doesn't mean inexperienced. The owners came up through the trade before starting this company, and the reviews reflect technical competence as well as good service.

AC Replacement Companies - Georgetown

DTC Air Conditioning & Heating

Address: 361 Logan Ranch Rd, Georgetown, TX 78628

Website: dtctexas.com

TDLR License: TACLB11837E

Founded: ~1993 (33 years per company website as of 2026)

Google Reviews: 4.7★, 211 reviews (as of May 13, 2026)

DTC has been locally owned and operated for over 30 years — a Georgetown institution. As a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer with N.A.T.E. certified technicians, they bring serious technical credentials to every job. They're also known for not subbing out work, which means the technician at your door is a DTC employee with direct accountability to the company.

That's a detail that matters more than most homeowners realize. When something goes sideways on a job, it matters whether the company has direct authority over the person who did it.

Why they made the list: 30+ years of independent local ownership, Carrier Factory Authorized status, N.A.T.E. certified technicians, in-house team.

Neal HVAC

Address: 2006 Rivery Blvd #111, Georgetown, TX 78628

Owner Chris Neal has built a loyal customer following — including customers who have been with him for 15+ years, by their own accounts. The company recently relocated its headquarters from Hutto to Georgetown.

Weir Texas AC & Heat

Address: 730 Co Rd 167, Georgetown, TX 78626

Website: weirtexac.com

TDLR License: TACLB132851E

Founded: 2023 by Michael Corey

Google Reviews: 4.9★, 97 reviews (as of May 13, 2026)

Weir Texas AC & Heat is a family-owned, second-generation HVAC company serving Williamson County. Founder Michael Corey is an HVAC/R technical college graduate with more than 15 years of hands-on experience in the Greater Austin area, including time at large home-warranty operations, high-end residential outfits, and his own previous business doing subcontracted system installs. His son D'Angelo joined the business after earning his own HVAC/R associate degree from Texas State Technical College in Hutto.

Two-generation operations in this trade are uncommon, and they tell you something about how a family treats the work — as a craft worth passing down, not just a job. Weir reflects that in their approach: they're known for offering honest second opinions when other companies push for full system replacements, and for backing every repair and installation with a 100% satisfaction craftsmanship guarantee. Their commitment to sending only TDLR-registered, background-checked technicians is the kind of detail that matters when someone's coming into your home.

Why they made the list: Family-owned and second-generation, founder with 15+ years personal experience, transparent diagnostic process, written craftsmanship guarantee, fully TDLR-registered technicians. Weir AC is the only company listed that does not operate from commercial space.

Who Should Be Our #10?

You just read about nine AC companies in Round Rock that I'd send my own parents to. But I'll be honest with you — I don't think any list like this should be the final word, including mine.

There are great locally owned HVAC companies serving this area that I may have missed. Maybe you've had an experience with a company that blew you away — a technician who showed up on a Sunday night, an owner who told you the honest truth when a cheaper repair would do the job, a team that treated your home like it was their own.

If that company is locally owned, licensed with TDLR, operating out of a real commercial location, and has earned the kind of reviews that reflect genuine trust — I want to hear about them.

Tell me who deserves the 10th spot.

Leave a comment below, send me an email at [scott@koalacooling.com], or reach out on social media. If a company earns enough community votes and clears our bar, we'll add them to the list — and we'll give credit to the people who recommended them.

This community deserves the best. Help me find them.

FAQ's

How much does AC replacement cost in Round Rock, TX?

A complete AC system replacement in Round Rock typically runs between $7,500 and $15,000 depending on system size, efficiency rating (SEER2), brand, and whether ductwork or electrical work is involved. We publish our actual pricing here so you can compare. Always get at least three written estimates before deciding.

See our actual pricing here →

How long does AC replacement take?

Most straightforward residential AC replacements take 6–10 hours and can be completed in a single day. If your job involves ductwork modifications, electrical upgrades, or a switch from a straight-cool system to a heat pump, plan on one to two days.

Do I need a permit to replace my AC in Round Rock?

Yes. The City of Round Rock requires a mechanical permit for AC system replacements, and any reputable HVAC company will pull it on your behalf. If a contractor offers to skip the permit to save you money, that's a red flag — your warranty and homeowners insurance can both be affected.

What size AC do I need for a typical Round Rock home?

Sizing depends on square footage, insulation, window orientation, ceiling height, and shade. A common Central Texas rule of thumb is one ton of cooling per 500–600 square feet of conditioned space, but a proper Manual J load calculation is the only reliable way to size correctly. An undersized unit will run constantly; an oversized unit will short-cycle and fail to dehumidify.

What's the best time of year to replace an AC in Texas?

November 1 to May 1 is the best window. Companies are less slammed, more likely to offer discount pricing, you'll have an easier time scheduling, and you avoid the emergency-replacement premium that comes with a July breakdown. If your system is 12+ years old, planning a proactive replacement is almost always cheaper than an emergency one.

How long should a new AC last in Central Texas?

A properly installed and maintained system typically lasts 12–17 years in Central Texas. Our climate is harder on equipment than the national average — long cooling seasons and high humidity wear systems faster. Annual maintenance is the single biggest factor in getting toward the high end of that range.

The Bottom Line

Replacing your AC system is one of the bigger investments you'll make as a homeowner. The company you choose matters , not just for the quality of the installation, but for what happens five years down the road when something needs attention. Every company on this list has earned the right to be here. They're all licensed, well-reviewed, locally accountable, and operating as real businesses with real teams.

Do your research, get multiple estimates, and hire someone whom you trust. That's true whether you call Koala Cooling & Plumbing or one of the nine other companies on this list!
