Every company on this list had to clear the same bar: locally owned, licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), operating out of a real commercial location (not someone's spare bedroom), a minimum 4.7 Google Business Profile rating, and at least 75 verified reviews. These aren't paid placements. Nobody gave me anything to be on this list. I just did the homework.
Why "Local" Matters More Than Ever for AC Replacement
Before I get to the list, I want to talk about something that I think matters a lot and doesn't get said enough.
A lot of the big-name HVAC companies you've heard of, the ones with the catchy jingles, the giant trucks, and the TV commercials, are no longer locally owned. Over the past several years, private equity firms have been buying up family-owned HVAC companies across the country at a remarkable pace. Private equity investors have purchased nearly 800 HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies since 2022 alone. Now, I want to be fair , there's nothing evil about private equity. Some of these transitions go smoothly, and some of those companies still do good work. But here's what I think homeowners deserve to know: many of these companies keep the same local name, same logo, and same family-feel branding even after they're part of a much larger corporate group operating dozens of brands across multiple states. You think you're calling a local neighbor. You might actually be calling a call center in another state.
When the main objective shifts to maximizing revenue per call, homeowners may feel pushed toward bigger replacements or add-ons before all repair options are fully explored.
When you hire a truly locally owned company for your AC system replacement, you're hiring someone who lives where you live. Someone whose reputation in this community is everything. Someone whom you can hold accountable, because they're your neighbor, not a corporate office three states away. That matters especially when a Texas summer hits and your AC goes out at 9pm on a Saturday.
